Our range of groups and classes just keeps on growing!

Read below for descriptions of our current activities​.

Please note that paying for the block reserves your space in the class every week.

For this reason, missed classes typically cannot be refunded. However there may be instances where circumstances change, and if you can no longer take part in the class, please let us know as soon as possible. In this instance, we may be able to refund or provide a credit to be used on another class.

Our Monday art group is a get together of like-minded people who like to paint, draw and explore their creativity in a relaxed and friendly manner with the guidance of our inspirational art tutor, Susan Gauld.

Sewing Projects

Aimed at sewers with some experience, this is a chance to work on that project you've always wanted to do. Guided by instructor and local textile designer Helen Greensmith.

Join our group of regular crafties who like to work in many different creative forms they support each other but work on their own projects. Limited numbers so please email us beforehand. Young Peoples Sewing

For those over the age of 10 with an interest in learning to sew with a machine to make craft projects or clothes. This is a busy class with those taking part learning and having fun.

Dance Fitness

This class is for those wanting to keeping fit and have fun while doing it! By following along using simple dance steps (all of the moves will be explained). The choreographies will target different muscle groups through fun dancing steps, working at different speeds, and rhythms.
Increasing all those important things that we take for granted: - balance, coordination, posture, endurance, all while being able to laugh at ourselves! We are never too young or too old to laugh and stay fit! Perfect for all fitness levels.

Contemporary Dance

A friendly, welcoming group that particularly welcomes those that are new to creative writing!

Amongst other things we will be covering getting started, style, poetry, characters, dialogue, plot and descriptive narrative over the next semester. 

If you're looking for insightful and critical feedback into your writing - this probably isn't the class for you! We're all about positive feedback and encouraging people to try new things in relation to creative writing.  

Each class is split into three thirds – 

1) homework from the previous week

2) a discussion about the topic in hand that week

3) a writing exercise. Reading out of your writing is optional but encouraged.

Over time, the practice of tai chi  develops awareness, coordination and flexibility and can improve body coordination such as posture, balance and movement. In terms of mindfulness the practice can also improve focus, patience and mental awareness. Tai chi practice relaxes and strengthens the body and calms the mind.  It has been demonstrated to improve circulation, health and balance, and regular practitioners suffer less from trips and falls. Harvard Medical School have listed Tai Chi as one of THE exercises you should practice for the rest of your life. Class tutored by Bruce MacFarlane from the Aberdeen Tai Chi Chuan club.

Stitchers

Join our group of regular quilters and stitchers who come and work on their beautiful designs bringing their own materials and sewing machines. You will receive support but the sessions are aimed at people with basic knowledge of their soft craft. Limited numbers so please email us beforehand.

Chapel Chimmers
 

Chapel Chimers are a group of 'senior' ladies who meet to make music using hand chimes. Any pieces that can be played on a piano are suitable for hand chimes. No musical ability is required but the ability to count to 3,4 or sometimes 6 and being able to keep time is useful. We play everything from hymn tunes to Scottish tunes, sing along songs and some classical pieces. We don't take ourselves too seriously. Anyone can give it a try. We meet weekly on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am.

Kids Fitness Fun

A fun class designed to build confidence, skills and fitness. This class open to 5 – 12-year-olds with a maximum of 12 in the class. The focus on fun while introducing the skills that can be transferred to specific sports if the young person decides that they want to give something a try. With a bit of circuits and a bit of athletics and some jiu jitsu drills thrown into the mix.

Tuesday 18:00 - 20:30 Sewing Beginners

If you've always wanted to sew but don't know where to start, this is the class for you. Our tutors Helen and Rachael will teach you the basic techniques to get you started in a social and relaxed environment. Sewing machines provided, or bring your own to learn more about your own machine.

Spanish 1 Beginners Level A1

HOLA! Would you like to go on holidays to Spain, South America or any Hispanic country or just be more in contact with the Hispanic culture? Come and enjoy our Spanish classes for adults. Our teacher, Sisi, will help you to understand and learn the basics so that you can enjoy your trips.

This Hatha yoga flow will strengthen and stretch your mind and body. Led by experienced instructor Nicky Bramley, it is the perfect way to wind down and find more energy.

Spanish 4 Level B1

This course is aimed to participants that have the knowledge and can communicate using the Indicative mood in Spanish. While you will practice the different tenses of Indicative, you will be introduced to the Pluperfect tense, go deeper into the Conditional and the Imperative mood, and the Subjunctive mood will be introduced. Other aspects of grammar are constantly reviewed, and other new elements are introduced, paying special attention to connectors, pronouns, periphrasis, comparative, superlative, paraphrase, and activities are aimed to enhance their vocabulary. Classes are developed using games, readings, videos, or audios, on different topics such as news, interests, trends, culture or even science, and participants will have the chance to practice their conversation skills each time.

Learig Orchestra

From 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Our friendly community orchestra's repertoire is generally classical and new players are welcomed in almost all sections – strings can always be accommodated and additional brass and a timpanist would be wonderful. We have a new Table Tennis group starting. The group is being supported by the Aberdeen & District Table Tennis Association and a coach will be on hand to provide support and guidance. Table tennis is such an accessible pass-time we are sure that it will be very popular with young, old experienced players and newbies!

Knit and Natter

Do you like knitting or want to learn a new skill? Here you can find a nice environment where you can work with yarn while gathering with other people just like you. All levels welcome. Tea and coffee will be provided. This group meets fortnightly with a group focusing on crochet meeting weekly. Contact the centre to find out the dates for each group.

Do you like crocheting or want to learn a new skill? Here you can find a nice environment where you can work with yarn while gathering with other people just like you. All levels welcome. Tea and coffee will be provided. This group meets weekly with a group focusing on kniting meeting fortnightly.

The Rosemount Racqueteers - A split session, the first half playingtable tennis, the second playing badminton. Geared towards those wanting to get or keep physically and/or mentally fit, with a strong social aspect. Participants welcome to take part in either or both sports.

Kids Art Projects

Fun, interactive art classes with local artist Rachael Rutherford. These classes will allow your child to explore their creativity in a fun, social environment. The activities class will focus on introducing new mediums to the children, whereas the projects class will learn to develop an idea over the course of a few weeks.

Spanish 3 Level A2 

This course is aimed to participants that have the knowledge and can communicate using the Present Tense of the Indicative mood in Spanish. While you will practice the Present Tense of Indicative, the different forms of Past Tense, Conditional, and Future Tense will be introduced. Other aspects of grammar are constantly introduced/reviewed paying special attention to adjectives, prepositions, pronouns, and vocabulary. Focusing particularly on topics such as: personal information, family, traveling, shopping, jobs.

Classes are developed using games, readings, videos, or audios, on different topics such as interests, trends or culture, and participants will have the chance to practice their conversation skills each time through a guided conversation.

Life Partner Loss Support Group this is a new group which will be developed by those attending to create a safe and supportive space for all. No matter how recent or distant a loss is all are welcome, grief has no time limit.

Stretch and Release

An invigorating class designed to release tension, open the body, and increase flexibility. The session will focus on giving your whole body a restorative practice through a combination of soothing mobility exercises and gentle stretches that will help you relax and recentre. Whether you are recovering from a tough workout, the stresses of daily life, or just want to safely increase your flexibility, this class is for you.

Upper Intermediate 

TOPICS: - Hoping and Wishing – Language Learning – Music and Dance - Lifestyle – Memories – Art – Fun and Entertainment – Cinema – Hopes and Dreams – Food – Habits. 

LANGUAGE FOCUS: - The subjunctive present – The subjunctive imperfect – the subjunctive plus prefect – arguing your point – the passive voice – verbs expressing feelings – report speech. 

VOCABULARY: - describing routines and events in the past – verbal periphrases – nationalities – past tenses (perfect tense, preterite tense, imperfect tense) – offering help – irregular verbs – the indicative and subjective in indirect objects

Yoga
